I choose the phrase “Act of defense” to describe chapters 3 and 4. I chose this prase because in chapter 3, the Socs try to attack Ponyboy and Johnny, so Pony boy and Johnny hold them off with a knife and a broken bottle. Then in chapter 4 they are attacked again, but this time to defend themselves, Johnny kills a Soc. They then run away to hide from the police.

The Outsiders
I chose the word “Prodigious” as my word to describe chapters 1 and 2 for the book “The outsiders”. Prodigious means adventurous bold or brave. I chose this word because the greasers were brave enough to help one member of the gang that was getting jumped. Also Ponyboy, the one who got jumped was also prodigious because he could have just let them jump him, but instead he tried to run away.

1. Identify situations in personal relationships that refelect power stuggles?
For example, in the relationship betqween little and big borther/sister, both want more power than the other and the other one always wants to dominate the other. One situation that affects power struggles in a personal relationship is when two people in a relationship break apart because they do not share the power equally and this results in a struggle to stay together.
2. Give examples of personal experiences of power stuggle situations and what was the outcome?
One example of a personal experience is when I think I cant do some things and later on I find out that with the power I have that i can accomplish anything I set my mind to if I try. Some times i try and try and try, and sometimes it seems that I cant do it, but in reality I just need more time to achieve my goal(s).
3. When and how do you use power in your interactions with others?
I use power evey day. I use it to decide weather or not I am going to make a new friend or when I have the power to decide to do good or bad. I also use power to decide when I am going to start my work and how much effort I want to put into it.
4. Where do you see or have seen power struggles occuring in your surrondings?
I see power struggles everywhere. I see it at home with my family, in my community, and in my school. I sometimes see struggles between my family when they have an argument, they struggle to get back in peace. At school, I see kids struggling with the people they interact with what they are trying to do. Also in my community I sometimes see that some of my neighbors dont always get along.
The Veldt
1. What kind of relationship do you see in “The Veldt” ?
I think that in The Veldt there is a bad relationship between the children and their parents because the children consider the mechanical house as their parents. I also read in the story that the children rarely went out with parents which also means that there is a bad relationship between them. They also spent alot of time imagining things up in their room that they don’t spend quality time together.
2. How do you see power? How is powered displayed?
In the story, the children never listen to their parents when they told them to do something. Instead, the children tell them what to do when it should be the other way, the parents telling their kids what to do. In the end their parents die when they are locked inside the kids room where they imagine things up, there they are eaten by a lion.
Desire Vs. Need!?
1. Is having everything you want a good thing?
I don’t think that it is a good thing if you get everything you want because it might send the wrong message to the person who is receiving what they want. The message they are getting is that you can get what you want whenever you want. If you get someone everything they want then you aren’t teaching them to work for what they want.
2. What is the difference between a need for something and a desire for something?
I think that need is different from desire because when you need something, you want something for a good and valid reason. When you need something, you want it for something important. For example, when you need school supplies for the start of a new school year, you want the supplies so that you wont be asking people for pens and pencils. When you want something, you want it because it is something you like or because everyone has it. For example, when you want a new game, you want it so you can play it when you want to and when you have nothing to do.
